Start 2014 as you mean to go on!

We all know New Year’s resolutions are hard to stick by, but perhaps this year one of your resolutions is to look at buying a new house, plan for your retirement or just to save more.

Looking after your finances is important, maybe now more than ever so here are a few pointers to help get 2014 off to a good start!

  • Set your goals – where do you want to be in 2015? How will you afford it? Maybe you want to work less hours, maybe you need or would just like a new car. Write down your goals and desired achievements for the year, but be realistic. This will motivate you to plan your finances around your goals.
  • Create your financial plan – make sure you know exactly where your money is, where it is going and if you are getting the best rates. Thorough financial planning will help you to reach your goals. You may feel you need some professional help with your financial plan, don’t panic our IAN process helps us to help you become financially secure. We will look at your Ideal situation, what your Actual situation is and what to Needs to be done.
  • Make your will – not something we like to think about but the consequences if you don’t have a will, should the worst happen, can be devastating for families. Of upmost priority when financial planning is life cover. Make sure you know exactly what it covers and how much, and if you don’t have it, get it! Check it regularly so you can keep it up to date.
  • Save, save, save – A study done by HSBC showed that the UK are the worst at saving for their retirement We’re sure you have lots of exciting plans for when you ‘graduate’ from work, an adventure holiday, a holiday home in the South of France, whatever your dreams, the earlier you start to save the easier your future will seem. However, it’s not just retirement, think of all the occasions you need to dip into your bank account for, holidays, birthdays, Christmas. If you start saving now the less damage you’ll feel afterwards.

Just a few tips for you to get the New Year off to a flying start. If you feel you need more advice or somebody to help put a thorough plan in place for you, give us a call on 01706 822622.

Happy New Year everyone!
